My posts over the past month or so have been pretty far removed from the news cycle, and especially so from the presidential horserace.

I wrote a lot of newsier and election-focused pieces in February and March, and after those it seemed like time to take a bit of a break. Even now, the election is six long months away. We’re stuck in limbo at the moment, with the primary contest long settled and the conventions still 2+ months in the future.

Yet this is a Substack largely devoted to politics, so I don’t feel like I can ignore what’s going on for too many weeks at a time.

Unfortunately, little has happened over the intervening month or so to change my predominately bleak view of the race.
