This will probably appeal only to a tiny fraction of my readership, but if that’s you: I paid a return visit to Daniel Oppenheimer’s excellent Eminent Americans podcast for the sole purpose of having a long (103-minute) conversation about Rod Dreher—including my sometimes-rocky 20-something-year friendship with him, why I keep reading him, where I feel a spiritual kinship with him, where I think he goes wrong, and how I keep myself from following him down that path. You can listen to the episode (or, without a paying subscription, at least a part of it) here.

Just in case anyone had any doubts, I am not a communist.

Given that fact, and my latter-day (since 2004) aversion to anything/everything Republican, it looks like I may never vote in an American election again.

Or so an awful lot of right-leaning “influencers” and pundits would have me believe. Because, you see, election results in Tuesday’s Democratic Party primary election in New York City have now revealed the party to be a Trojan Horse concealing an invading army of post-colonial Stalinists out to destroy capitalism, slaughter Jews, abolish the police, eliminate national borders, and quite possibly burn America and western civilization to the ground.

Thankfully, that take on what happened on Tuesday is self-aggrandizing nonsense. The truth is quite a bit less alarming, though still troubling for someone with my rather normie center-left political commitments.

A Tea Party Movement from the Left?
