PODCAST: "After the Theocons"
Take a listen to my appearance on "Know Your Enemy"
Those of you who have read my inaugural post know how much I admire, learn from, and model this newsletter on the “Know Your Enemy” podcast with Matthew Sitman and Sam Adler-Bell. So you can just imagine how thrilled I was to be invited on for a nearly ninety-minute conversation with Matt and Sam.
The truth is, it went even better than I hoped it would. If you like what you read here, you will definitely want to take a careful listen (and consider becoming a regular listener and supporter of the pod). We discuss what I learned from my teacher and friend Mark Lilla about avoiding political and intellectual recklessness; my time studying with Straussians in graduate school; my brief stint as a speechwriter for Rudy Giuliani; how I ended up working with Richard John Neuhaus at First Things magazine and why I eventually broke from them; and of course the rise of Donald Trump and how he both emerged from and transformed American conservatism. Listeners will also hear, toward the end, what is probably my most concise and compelling statement in opposition to prosecuting the former president.
So please, follow the link to listen.
