There’s no rest for the weary in our troubled polity.

Today the Republican National Convention gets underway in Milwaukee, just two days following an attempted assassination of the party’s nominee. I started and deleted a few posts on Sunday as I tried to bring my thoughts and feelings about this event into some kind of coherent whole for you, my dear readers. But I failed. My mind remains too unsettled to offer any single takeaway from this weekend’s shocking events. So here, instead, are a series of seven disconnected ideas prompted by what we’ve all just lived through and what we’re likely to see during the remainder of this week and those that lie ahead.
