Sounds great, but it also sounds like you'll be very, very busy. For a period when I was writing my dissertation I also had a job that required me to write all day, and I discovered that that wasn't quite optimal. Of course, people vary. A good friend, and a top scholar in his field, confessed to me at the time that he'd discovered he only had three hours a day of quality writing in him, so he didn't even try to do more than that, because he would just have to erase it the next day. I told him I didn't have that option. Glad you'll be in center city Philadelphia! I did six or seven years of my education there and really loved it.

Good luck on your book, Damon. I look forward to getting your book and reading it. I hope you can publish excerpts from time to time on this site, even if not fully baked for the official publication (and to you and others--in addition to looking forward to this book, I am also looking forward to an upcoming [Fall 2025] book by Laura K Fields, who has written many interesting articles on the genesis and behavior of the MAGA Right. The Fields book will be published by Princeton University Press as well, and is entitled: Furious Minds: The Making of the MAGA New Right).

Yay! Another Strauss book!! Joking, of course.

But you are doing it because it is what you love. And guys like me will probably read it, but it won’t alleviate our general puzzlement at the world. Strauss is not a puzzlement reducer.

In fact, feel free to use that for the title to one of your chapters. 😎

Having taken several courses with Strauss as a graduate student at Claremont Graduate School in the late 1960's, I will look forward to your book and your thinking on his influence on political conservatism and the misunderstanding by some of his intent.
